As we age, our bodies compensate for the loss of estrogen by turning fat cells into estrogen producers. That in turn can produce a vicious cycle: The more estrogen you have, the better your body is at storing fat. The more fat, the bigger your breasts.
About one in five women gains a cup size after menopause, a study done in 2015 found, thanks to fluctuating estrogen levels, weight gain, and water retention. If that's happened to you, and you're not loving the bosomy look, you're not alone. A survey done by a European lingerie company found that nearly half of women over 40 wanted perkier boobs.
So how to get your bounce back? Nutritionists say women can drop a bra size, according to the Daily Mail. But you have to pick foods that help your body flush out the excess hormones, like
citrus fruits and more green vegetables--preferably raw or lightly steamed. Both contain compounds that help you metabolize estrogen faster. Whole grains, like brown rice and multi-grain breads, can up your fiber intake, which also helps your digestive tract get rid of the estrogen. Cutting back on cow's milk (swap in almond instead) and alcohol also helps.
