Ever see someone blotting a slice of pizza with a napkin to soak up some of the grease? And ever wondered if that trick worked? The folks at LabDoor, a company that analyzes all sorts of products, did--and put a 14-inch slice of Domino's pepperoni pizza to the test.
The results: Dabbing your pie with a napkin can cut 40.5 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. And since the average person in the U.S. eats 87 slices of pizza a year, if you continue the grease-blotting habit each time you order a slice, you'll consume 6,611 fewer calories a year. And that prevents a two-pound weight gain per year!
UPDATE: Apparently, the science behind blotting is iffy, Buzzfeed reports. It's based on a 15-year-old study funded by Georgia Pacific, which makes paper products, including paper towels. There's nothing wrong with dabbing, nutritionists say, but it probably won't cut the calories and fat in any meaningful way.
