After they were married in 1995, Udona and Chuck Hebert of Kaplan, LA were told they would never be able to conceive children. Though the two had always hoped to have kids, doctors informed them that biological children "just weren't in the cards" for them.

For 20 years, they continued to try anyway, always hanging onto hope deep down inside--and spending time with their nieces and nephews and opening their home to exchange students to help fill the void.
"We get along and love each other, of course, but it always felt like there was something missing from our lives. I had always wanted children, but we moved on with life in our own way," Chuck told People.
But this past January, when Udona began having stomach pains, dizziness, and cramps, she feared they were symptoms of cancer. At her family's urging, however, she took a pregnancy test--and got the shock of her life. Udona was pregnant--and just four weeks away from her due date!

"It sounds silly, but I thought I had some form of cancer or infection," she says. "I didn't tell anyone about my ailment because I didn't want Chuck to make a fuss over me. I prayed every night, in silent prayer, that I would get better. It never even crossed my mind that I was pregnant. We had tried for over 20 years to get pregnant and nothing ever happened."
The couple immediately dove into preparing for their baby, arranging last-minute prenatal care and reading parenting books.
The parents now consider their new son, whom they named Brooks Major Hebert, a miracle baby.

"Every now and then I see someone that has struggled with fertility for years and by the grace of God they get pregnant. It's hard to explain," said Udona's doctor, Paul Gibbs, who called their situation "very rare."
The baby, who suffered from lung issues shortly after delivery, stayed in the neonatal intensive-care unit for nine days, but today is doing great.
"God had a plan for us – a longterm plan – but a plan nonetheless!" says Udona.
