When Xenia Verhagen was born, everyone thought she was completely healthy. Then, when the little girl was 2 months old, her head began to swell. At her checkup that month, the pediatrician told her parents to get to the hospital right away. The MRI revealed a large tumor in her brain that doctors later diagnosed as an anaplastic ependymoma (grade 3) tumor. It was so huge that the doctors believed that Xenia had been born with it.

The tumor was malignant, and Xenia had to have three brain surgeries to remove it--followed up by six cycles of chemotherapy. At six months old, she is on her fourth. A couple of weeks ago, her mom posted this photo to a breastfeeding moms' group on Facebook.

The mom revealed she was happy to have the opportunity to nurse her baby during her chemo treatments. "It has been a bonding experience for the both of us, especially because no day is guaranteed," she added. The tumor has a 95 percent chance of coming back.
The photo and post have gone viral--a testament to little Xenia's warrior spirit and the power of the mom-baby bond.
