7 Non-Committal Ideas for Decorating with Color

Tags:

If you want to inject some color into your home interior but you’re not ready to start painting the walls in a vibrant hue, it’s time to invest in some colorful decor or soft furnishings that can be mixed and matched or swapped out for something new as your style or color preference changes. Let us introduce you to a thing called “non-committal color.”

From vibrant artworks to statement chairs and cushions, there are plenty of affordable and impermanent ways to dial up the color in every room in your home and embrace the latest color trends. Here are seven ways to flirt with color without the commitment.

Use a statement rug.

Lay a brightly-colored rug on the floor. Keep your furniture pieces neutral so they’re not competing for attention (also a good move if you decide to replace your rug down the line), and pull out one or two colors in the rug for your decorative accents – think a bright light fitting, a matching throw, or colorful frames.

Put up eye-catching artwork.

Whether you like multi-colored abstracts or more muted tones, art adds another layer of texture and dimension to a room, while providing an insight into your personality and style.

Bright up your kitchen.

Invest in colorful small appliances for your kitchen countertop. Think kettles, toasters, and stand mixers in all manner of shades. If you want to splurge, a colorful fridge is always a favorite.

Treat yourself to a bunch of flowers.

You can change them as often as the inclination strikes and they come with numerous mood-boosting benefits. Choose seasonal varieties to get more bang for your buck and use greenery from the garden to bulk out your arrangements.

Buy all of the pillows!

Seriously, this is one of the cheapest and simplest ways to brighten up a room, and they’re comfortable too. And if you happen to spill coffee on one, or just see one that you like better, it’s easy enough to buy new covers to slip over the existing inserts.

Hang some colorful curtains.

These style staples can really elevate a room, so long as they’re not clashing or competing with other items.

Embrace wallpaper.

Line the insides of bookshelves or cabinets with colored contact or wallpaper. This is particularly handy if you’re renting, or if you just really like neutral walls. It adds instant impact with very little fuss, and looks amazing teamed with accessories in minimalist tones.
