Told by Tomball Regional Medical Center staff that his son was "brain dead" in early 2015, George Pickering somehow knew they were wrong about the young man needing to be taken off life support.

And desperate to save his son's life, the Texas dad went to an extreme measure to do so.
Pickering pulled out a 9 mm handgun while standing by his son's bedside. According to witnesses, Pickering yelled, “I’ll kill all of you," while pointing it at staff members.

Though another son at the hospital disarmed him, he refused to surrender to SWAT officers after they arrived, resulting in an hours-long standoff as the distraught father held onto his son's hand.
After he finally surrendered when he got confirmation that his son was responsive and wasn't brain dead after all, he was placed behind bars until December 2015.

Today, his son is fully recovered and healthy--perhaps because of his father's bold action.
“Everything good that made me a man is because of that man sitting next to me,” he said. “There was a law broken, but it was broken for all the right reasons. I’m here now because of it. It was love.”
