Garage sales are usually about selling old, used items that you no longer have any need for, but for the Swaney family, this occasion was about getting rid of something brand new.
Samantha and Don Swaney had been setting up for their annual yard sale in Conyers, Georgia when two cops arrived at their home. Samantha immediately assumed they were there to check the permit that was allowing them to have the garage sale. Surprisingly, that wasn't the reason why they came.
Officer Hutchinson and Officer Searcy had just finished responding to an emergency call about a three-month-old baby in distress. When they saw that the child's family couldn't afford a crib for the youngster, they went on a search to purchase one. As they were looking, they happened to drive by as the Swaneys were putting out their furniture and decided to try their luck with them. Unfortunately, the couple weren't selling a baby's crib at the sale, but they did own one that had never been used.
Years ago, the pair lost their baby during childbirth and they've kept the crib in their attic because the heartbroken woman had trouble parting with it. But now that she heard about the needy family the police were trying to help, she was convinced that it was finally time to say goodbye, so she and her husband generously gave up the crib and mattress.
“Perfect time is the right thing to say because with my belief, everything happens for a reason,” said Officer Searcy.

Samantha believed that their chance meeting was a blessing in disguise and that they were meant to help another child in need. She thanked the selfless policemen for going above and beyond to do their job.
“These two gentleman did so much more than they knew… They rushed to the aid of someone in our community, saved the life of a little baby, and helped her parents," Samantha wrote on the Conyers Police Department's Facebook page. "And they gave me a way to let go of one of the biggest things I was holding onto from my son’s cut-short life.”
