We are raiding our spare-button bin to give plain painted boxes an upcycled sentimental presentation by adding a pearlized sweetheart appliqué.
What you’ll need:
1 oatmeal (or other recycled) box
1 can of lime green spray paint
1 piece of paper (for heart template)
24 white pearlized shirt buttons
1/2 yard of satin ribbon
12" string for lid
Spray-paint an empty oatmeal box lime green and let dry completely. Cut out a 5"-tall paper heart. Use a pencil to lightly trace the outline of the paper heart onto the front of the box. Attach pearl buttons to the pencil lines using hot glue. (To keep the heart symmetrical, start at the top center of the heart and add opposing pairs, working toward the bottom point.) Using fabric glue, attach a 5/8"-wide satin ribbon around the top of the box. Then thread a 12" string through the lid and slide a single button onto it. Tie a gift tag with a sweet message onto the string ends.
