6 Simple Ways to Give Your Bedroom More Personality

Tags:

Neutral tones have dominated bedroom styling in the past, and it’s easy to understand why. Their simplicity makes the space feel elegant, refined, and calming. The downside of perfectly neutral bedrooms, however, is that they run the risk of becoming perfectly bland — and that’s what we should all strive to avoid.

Of course, color is one of the easiest ways to introduce a playful personality into any space. Plus, it can be done in a variety of ways. We sat down with Edward Li, the director of homewares brand Luxotic (known for their bold and colourful textile creations) for his top tips on how to bring color into the bedroom the right way.

1. Lay Your Foundation

A versatile neutral base like white, gray, or cream works with every color you could possibly imagine. Mix it up with different patterns and textures to add depth, and be mindful of the cool, neutral, and warm undertones of the colors.

2. Repurpose Old Items

Re-upholstering your favorite chair or repainting an old chest of drawers can breathe new life into a cherished object or antique. It will also add an extra dimension to your bedroom’s decor.

3. Pick a Color Theme

Balance harmony and design by introducing one color theme throughout your bedroom. Simplicity is key, so don’t overcomplicate it with tons of color combinations. Rein in the temptation to add way too many colors that may clash, and stick to your chosen color palette to ensure cohesion throughout the space.

4. Add a Floral Accent

Bring the outdoors inside by introducing green plants or flowers. They add color, fragrance, personality, and a touch of nature to your nook. Whether you go with a chic vase and floral arrangement or a more permanent indoor plant, the organic shape and textures will complement your bedroom furnishings nicely.

5. Choose a Focal Point

Textiles like bed linen, cushions, or a throw will add a focal point to your bedroom. If your bedding is the focus, pair it with more subtle cushions and throws to make sure it’s highlighted appropriately, and vice versa. When you want to change up space, simply replace your pieces to freshen things up again.

6. Highlight Wall Art

A wall feature will add drama and design intrigue to your room without overpowering the rest of your decor. Removable wallpaper has been incredibly popular because of how easy it is to hang and remove, especially for rental properties. They are available in an array of bold and subtle prints and patterns. A feature wall will instantly liven up a space!
