We've all seen infomercials for products that promise to make unsightly scars disappear. But despite convincing before-and-after shots, it's hard to tell if those pricey creams and oils actually work.
Unfortunately for those products' marketers and fortunately for us, a new way of closing up wounds leads to nearly scarless results. We can thank scientists at St Andrews University in Scotland who may have found a way to reduce scarring by eliminating the need to get stitches at all after an injury.

The technique involves a laser, some sticky medical dye, and optical fibers. The laser, which goes directly over the cut, triggers the biodegradable fibers to force the collagen molecules in the skin together. This seals the wound...in just 15 minutes.
