Staying motivated can be the toughest part of any diet. To the rescue: this clever idea that makes it easy to see your progress and stick with your plan. To do: Place 2 glass jars on your dresser or nightstand. Using a permanent marker, label one glass "Pounds to Go" and drop in one marble for every pound you want to lose. Label the other jar "Pounds Lost." Then each time you drop a pound, take a marble from "Pounds to Go" and place it in "Pounds Lost." Research at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg shows that that seeing a visual representation of progress made prompts us to put more effort toward achieving a goal and helps us sustain it longer. The reason? Being able to see how far we’ve come and how close we are to the end reignites motivation to reach the finish line.
