This flirty cocktail gets its tangy flavor from grapefruit juice. Grapefruit contains a flavonoid (nobiletin) that switches off fat-storage genes. The payoff: Canadian researchers found that subjects on a high-fat, nobiletin-rich diet gained 87 percent less weight than those who didn’t get the nutrient.
What’s more, enjoying sips spiked with grapefruit juice can cut energy-sapping blood-sugar swings by 64 percent, report Harvard University researchers. Credit goes to the fruit’s hesperidin, which improves cells’ sensitivity to the blood sugar-regulating hormone insulin.
Here’s the yummy recipe:
3/4 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 cup fresh-squeezed red grapefruit juice
1/4 cup orange-strawberry juice
1 tsp. lime juice
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier (optional)
1 oz. tequila (optional)
In blender, puree all ingredients 30 sec. or until smooth. Sweeten. Pour into glass.
