The sip is a rich source of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs)—a type of healthy fat that stimulates the thyroid to produce more of a key fat-burning hormone (thyroxine). The payoff: Researchers at the University of Naples in Italy found that consuming a MCFA-enriched meal boosted subjects’ metabolism by 56 percent for up to 5 hours.
What’s more, enjoying a coconut-milk smoothie can keep you full and satisfied for up to 4 hours because the MCFAs in the sip trigger the release of hunger-suppressing hormones. In fact, one study found subjects given a MCFA-rich drink consumed 15 percent fewer calories at their next meal than those who didn’t get the fatty acids.

1 small *banana, *chopped (about 4 oz.)
1/2 cup** dulce de leche ice cream**
1/2cup** coconut milk**
1 Tbs.** dark rum **(optional)
In blender, combine all ingredients. Blend 30 sec. or until smooth. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate curls, if desired. Serve immediately.
