After years of ordering Diet Coke during our flights, we were stunned to learn that flight attendants actually really hate it when we do that. And not surprisingly, there are a bunch of other things passengers do that make attendants fume inside. While technically, we have every right to order whatever beverage we'd like (we are spending our hard-earned money, aren't we?), getting on an attendant's bad side isn't always the best idea. So here are five things that you should avoid the next time you fly, according to the men and women themselves.
Hogging overhead bin space
Most airlines will allow you only one carry-on and one personal item, and even then there are still fights for open space. Instead of putting your backpack or purse overhead, place it underneath your seat like airlines ask. Flight attendants notice if there are passengers with small suitcases and nowhere to put them because you decided you didn't want to hold your bag.
Can we all agree that the overhead bins are to be used for LARGE BAGS ONLY? ✈🚽🙈 👜💣🔍✂🚫 You're not the only person on the plane. Way to go on delaying the boarding process, lady. Smaller items go UNDERNEATH THE SEAT IN FRONT OF YOU. Kthxbai. EDIT: THE PLANE IS NOT EMPTY, BOARDING HAS JUST STARTED AND THIS IS NOT A BULKHEAD. Not saying hello when you board
This seems like a no-brainer. A flight attendant's job is to basically make your flight less miserable, so the least you can do is greet them. You don't want them to purposely ignore you when you need something, do you?
Putting your feet in other people's space
Maybe you're not as bad as this woman who decided to rest her feet on the seat rests in the row in front of her, but that doesn't mean the person in front of you wants to enjoy the feeling of your feet against the back of his or her seat. Just keep your feet to yourself (and for the love of God, please don't take your shoes off!).
Taking your shoes off during the flight
Let's say it together one more time: I will not take my shoes off during the flight. Got it? Good.
If you're in for a long flight, wanting to take your shoes off is understandable. If you really must do it, please remember to put your shoes back on before you go to the bathroom. You wouldn't enter a public restroom barefoot, would you? You're essentially mopping up bodily fluids and toilet water when you don't wear shoes. Yuck!
1. The airplane is not your living room. 2. That liquid on the floor of the lavatory? NOT. WATER. 3. Are those cut off sweat pants?! #headexplodes ✈👣💦🚽💩✈ #urinetrouble 😂 • • • • • #passengershaming #flyingfeet #NOPE #airplaneetiquette #frequentflyer #crewlife #flightgoals #sassystew #aviation #cabincrew #avgeek #cabincrewlife #flightattendant #flightattendantlife #stewardess #flightattendantproblems #travel #flightattendants #instapassport #aviationgeek #FAlife #airtravel #travelgram #traveltips #pilot #pilotlife #travelling #frequentflier

Doing yoga in the middle of the aisle
Yoga is a great exercise for the body, but a crowded airplane is not the place to do it. Don't even think about asking a flight attendant if you use their galley area to do a bit of stretching.
Now you know what not to do, you can be on your best behavior the next time you fly. If you're lucky, your flight attendant might even give you seconds on snacks.
