Add Avocado to Your Deviled Eggs for a Healthy Twist on the Classic Recipe

Tags:

Whether you’re planning ahead for big shindigs like an annual Super Bowl party or having the whole family over for Easter, deviled eggs are one of the easiest and yummiest snacks to share with a crowd. In fact, my family members have been known to hide the big tray of eggs my aunt makes for every get together in order to get the most for themselves! There are tons of ways to whip up the beloved finger food, but most of us are familiar with the traditional method of mixing egg yolks, mayonnaise, and mustard, then filling up the egg whites and topping them off with relish and paprika.

As crowd-pleasing as that classic recipe is, there’s a genius way to put a healthier twist to your deviled eggs: Use an avocado instead of mayo! Now, we’re not saying there’s anything wrong with enjoying the mayonnaise-based original recipe, but avocados are undeniably packed with a few extra nutritious benefits. Not only are they chock-full of antioxidants that help protect our body’s cells from damage, but the hefty amount of fiber found in avocados can even help ward off the blues — which is something many of  us especially need in the bleak winter and soggy spring months.

While preparing your deviled eggs, simply smush in the pulp of one avocado with your egg yolks for a creamy, delicious filling. Of course, mustard might not be the best option for seasoning this particular mixture. You can instead take inspiration from guacamole and add some cilantro, lime, and a dash of hot sauce for a crowd-pleasing flavor. After all, the fact that you can play around with your own favorite spices and garnishes is all part of the beauty when it comes to this simple appetizer. Just be sure to make plenty for your next event — chances are, people will come back for seconds (and thirds).
