Mom Ashley Sistrunk knew that Christmas this year would be a little bit different without her husband, but she was up to the task.
Ashley's husband, Sgt. Brandon Sistrunk, is currently stationed in Iraq, and, unfortunately, he can't be with his family during the holidays. But Ashley just didn't feel right about not including her husband in the family's Christmas card, so she got pretty creative.
Inspired by a post she saw on Pinterest, she and her four children staged a heartwarming photoshoot that serves as such a lovely reminder of how much Brandon's family loves and misses him.
I hate wanting to wish away a holiday. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but with Brandon gone and the kids begging to have him home on Christmas, it just won't be the same. I know we are supposed to "live for today!", but I wish I could wake up tomorrow and have it be late January! It makes me sad for couples who aren't truly the best of friends. Brandon is my best friend in the whole world and my heart needs him home! Can someone call Ellen and tell her to bring him home for me?! K thanks😂 #deployment #christmas
First, she asked Brandon for a photo of himself holding a sign that says, "Merry." With the help of a friend and some Photoshop magic, Ashley and her four kids complete the holiday message.
And it gets better! The couple managed to get a photo of themselves kissing.
Ashley even jokingly posted the photos her husband sent her, including almost 15 different pictures of Brandon just kissing the air.
But beneath the family's light-hearted Christmas card is a deeper message. Ashley hoped her cards would be a sign of strength for military families who don't get to see their loved ones during the holidays. She wants other people with spouses in the military to know, "they aren't alone in this."
Fortunately for the Sistrunks, Brandon is scheduled to return home in January of 2017.
