“When my daughter went into labor three weeks early, I immediately set out on the 55-mile drive to her hospital. It was late and it started snowing something fierce, so I ended up taking the wrong exit and found myself horribly lost with no signal on my cell phone. ‘I’m coming, little one,’ I uttered through frustrated tears.
“I pulled over to fumble with the old map in the glove box, when a car pulled up beside me. ‘Are you lost?’ the woman asked when I rolled down my window. I nodded and said I just needed to get to the highway. ‘Follow me. You’ll make it in no time!’ she said with a wink.
“I followed her for 10 minutes, then sighed with relief when lights appeared in the distance. But as we got closer, I saw they weren’t from the highway—they were from the hospital! We both pulled into the parking lot, but before I could thank her, she waved and drove away. I was so grateful I could’ve burst, and in that instant, I realized…I had never told her I was going to the hospital.”
