At first, there was nothing out-of-the-ordinary about the evening shift for Heather Schelsteder, a waitress at Cheddar's Restaurant in Baytown, TX. Because it was a relatively slow night, she chatted with one of her customers, a mom and grief counselor, as she and her two kids looked at their menus.

After a few minutes, the two women discovered a bond. The mom had lost her brother in the Iraq War; Schelsteder's beloved grandmother had passed away right before Thanksgiving. The waitress confessed how hard it had been since her grandmother's death because she'd never lost anyone that close to her. "We both got teary-eyed," the waitress told KHOU News.
When the mom and kids left, Schelsteder discovered the tip: $100 for a $27 meal. But more importantly, she also discovered the words the woman had written: "Have an amazing New Year! It gets easier."

“She made me realize there are still people out there that do care,” the waitress told the Texas TV station, adding that she'd never gotten a chance to thank the woman.
Now that this touching story is going viral, she just may get her wish.
