“‘What does Heaven look like?’ my 4-year-old, Tamra, asked one day. I was startled, considering our topic of conversation was usually cartoons. Then it hit me. It had been a week since her goldfish, Gill, had died.
“‘How about you draw a picture of what you think it might be like,’ I said. With a nod, Tamra scurried off to her room. A half hour later, she returned to show me her masterpiece…and my heart nearly stopped. The drawing had gold clouds, and a woman with bright red hair, wearing a blue apron, pink shoes and holding a goldfish bowl. It looked just like my mother, who died long before Tamra was born.
“‘Who is this pretty lady?’ I asked, finally finding my voice. Tamra smiled as if she knew her well. ‘I met her in a dream. She said she’s my nana and that’s how Heaven looks. She told me she loves me and will take care of Gill.’
“My heart full of joy, I hung our beautiful glimpse of Heaven on the refrigerator.”
